Questions, answered
How lists, sharing and ticking off work, and what happens to your data.
Getting started
What is GiftAdd?
GiftAdd is a wishlist app. Keep your own wishlists, share them with family and friends, or build one together, like a family Christmas list where everyone has their own section. When someone buys a gift they tick it off, so nobody buys the same thing twice.
Where can I get it?
GiftAdd isn't in the app stores yet. It's coming to iPhone and Android first, followed by a website and a browser extension.
How do I sign in?
With your email: type it in, then enter the 6-digit code we send you. There's no password to remember. Sign in with Apple and with Google are coming too.
What do I need to set up?
Just a nickname, an animal avatar (a toucan, lizard, gorilla, rabbit, kitty or bear) and a background color. You get your own wishlist straight away. Your friends see your nickname and avatar in the lists you share.
Lists and sharing
What's my default list?
Everyone gets one wishlist automatically. It works like any other list, and you can share it, but you can't delete it. Make as many other lists as you like, each with its own name, color, currency and layout.
What's the difference between grouped by person and one pool?
Grouped by person gives every member their own section with the wishes they added, like "Mom's Box" and "Dad's Box" on a family Christmas list. One pool shows everything together, which suits a household list. The list owner can switch at any time.
What can people I share a list with do?
Everyone in a list is a member: they can add their own wishes, tick items off and share the list further. Only the person who made the list changes its name, color, currency and layout, removes members or deletes it. And everyone can only edit or delete the items they added themselves.
Can I let someone see a list without joining it?
Not in the app: everyone you share a list with becomes a member. To just show someone your wishes, send the list as text from the Share window.
What happens when someone leaves a list?
The wishes they added stay in the list, and the list's owner takes them over. The owner can also remove members, with the same result.
Wishes and ticking off
What can I put on a wish?
A name, a category and an estimated price, plus a link, notes and a picture if you like.
How does ticking off work?
When you buy something, tick its box. Everyone in the list sees that it's bought, so nobody buys it again. A wish is simply ticked or not ticked.
Can people see who bought a gift?
No. GiftAdd never shows who ticked a wish, and doesn't even save it. The person who wished for it does see that it's been bought, so they don't go and buy it themselves.
Which currencies can I use?
Danish, Swedish and Norwegian kroner, euros, pounds and US dollars. Each list has one currency, and prices are only labels: nothing is ever converted.
Can I make my own categories?
Yes. Home, Cosmetics, Books, Gaming and Hobbies are there from the start. Pick Custom… to type your own, and tick Save category for future to keep it in your list of categories.
Friends and profile
How do I add a friend?
Type their friend code under Friends, open their link, or scan the QR code in their profile with your phone's camera. You become friends on both sides at once, with no request to accept.
Can I have a different name in each list?
Yes. Set a list nickname in the list's settings, so you can be "Mom" in the family list and your own name everywhere else.
Privacy
Who can see my lists?
Only the members of each list. Nobody else can find or open them, and the rules are enforced by the database itself, not just by the app.
Where is my data stored?
In the EU. The privacy policy has the details.
How do I delete my account?
Contact us at [privacy contact email] and we'll delete your account and your data.
